As much as I love these games mechanically, you can kind of tell the point where they really started running out of time.

After the 6th gym, the game starts breaking the "show, don't tell" rule a lot - leading to the villain, and the evil team feeling underdeveloped. "Oh, a scary thing is happening off screen!" *one load screen later * "It's alright, the Champion already dealt with it" shouldn't be something that happens repeatedly.

When they do show, some of it is good, and some of it is animation the camera probably should have avoided, where a cut would have been less jarring than a character awkwardly pivoting and slowly walking due to what's meant to be near the climax of the story.

A lot of the towns don't feel as interactive as they did before, but the town with the 7th gym is really bad for this.

The one after looks amazing, but it doesn’t give the same feeling as other really big cities; it isn’t a place you can get lost in searching for things, unlike Lumiose and whatever the really big one in B/W was.
