Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling

Watched this tonight on Phen's mom's Netflix account! I'm very picky about trans representation in cis media these days (this isn't the desert of 2004, I will not accept greywater of that era); by my own personal metric I'd say they pulled it off here.

I'm specifically amazed they were able to pull this off in a 20-years-removed special that works to be so thematically, tonally, and stylistically consistent with the original work it's based on

There's a fear when you transition of 'how would my childhood heroes feel about me now?'; it's good to know that these ones in particular would accept it without question.

Also, by deeply involving Joe Murray/highlighting the return of Chokey Chicken/making Rachel's transition what the story is ultimately *about* it makes it difficult to argue this was an executive mandate the people making the show didn't really believe in

It's a shame the addition of another female character didn't motivate them to make an episode that passed the Bechdel test, though. Ah, well; maybe in another 20 years

@Lobst yeah.. i feel like the pacing didn’t leave quite as much time for certain things towards the end to really sink in, and one thing I would have loved would have been seeing Rachel actually talk to her mom about her transition, too, and not just showing her mom being belatedly supportive after having heard about it second hand through her dad.
