Felt like playing more original Psychonauts so I started a new save, this time trying to earn as many PSI challenge ranks and achievements ASAP instead of critical-pathing the plot. I've now seen so many camp cutscenes, I can attach *some* of the kids' names to their faces

Preparing to play Psychonauts VR on my gaming laptop in the living room, I realized its sole HDMI output would be taken up by the headset. The solution ended up being to use in-home streaming to deliver the laptop's A/V over a LAN cable to a different computer entirely

I keep thinking about that Amazon user review for Episode II, the one that says "if I lived in this world I would not fight for it at all". For all the time given to showing the spectacle of its worlds there's so little spent depicting the things in them worth fighting for

The Star Wars Visions short about the band is so unconventional for the setting; it joins the Holiday Special in putting a spotlight on diegetic media the real-world audience is meant to be able to enjoy divorced of context. I love it unironically

XBOX MEGASKILL FATAL1TY VICTORY ROYALE controller, for TRUE gaming pro tournament grand-prize trophy-earners (crumbles into silvery plastic powder on package unseal)

On the verge of getting my third PC game controller replaced within the span of a year, all because of different internal components that stick (D-pad, right trigger, A button). Gosh, I hope I'm not the common factor at fault here

Finished my replay of the original Psychonauts tonight! Still a fun game, an all-time great 3D platformer, ambitious in all sorts of ways; its reach does exceed its grasp sometimes, making me think it'd benefit from a remake it's likely to never get

I'll never balk at people gaining access to old media, but there's a big difference between that megapack of DRM-free Genesis ROMs Sega sells online and Nintendo Switch Online's encrypted games locked to a proprietary emulator/only accessible through a subscription

Show thread

I get the feeling the Switch Online classic games subscription service exists primarily as a value-add for people who want "access" to a massive library, secondarily for Nintendo to keep a selection of old games around for people to contrast with the new for novelty factor

TECH COMPANY: Hey, what if we just supplied you everything in a neat little package? Hardware, software, maintenance, everything running through our company services! Doesn't that sound convenient?
ME, FIVE YEARS AWAY FROM JUNKING A DEVICE I BOUGHT FOR $500: Hell YES it does

Finally finished 2.0 content late last night; while outfitting myself for The Ultimate Weapon I discovered I'd autoequipped this earring, the "I am no longer asking" ratchet for Square-Enix's desire to level me up to 80

I died three times in the ladder climb/platforming challenge leading up to Jeff and zero times to Jeff himself. The section still felt tense the whole way through, so I'd say it -- unlike the way ladders and jumping work in this -- was designed well twitter.com/lobst/status/14397

(the USB device in question is an Avermedia Live Gamer Mini, which seems capable enough for what I need it to do; all future game footage on this account will likely come from it)

I put some time today into determining if my media PC could handle recording/streaming 720p60 video from USB, so far the answer is no; in OBS on Linux it encounters an annoying hitch every few seconds. Frustrating, but I'm glad I can enlist my laptop for this task instead

Here's the look I've got at the moment, also. I haven't checked the entire selection yet, and I'm saving my money for properties and crucial upgrades

Additionally, when you complete an activity its designated section of the city is now Saint-controlled and free of rival gangs. Great if you want to complete a checklist, but it has the side-effect of making the open world in this crime game less chaotic the more you play

Show thread

Finish an activity and it's greyed out; do the activity again and it'll provide the same general experience alongside a small amount of cash and respect; no bonuses for doing well, no high scores recorded (not even locally so you can compete with yourself)

I still can't figure out why some minigames automatically kick you out the instant you reach the objective. It happens even in activities like Insurance Fraud where there are no activity-specific assets and the objective is a score you need to reach before the timer's up

I still haven't played Deltarune Chapter 1, but I figure enough time's passed since Undertale that I can (and should) knock that out at some point
